Delaney Schlake

Delaney Schlake recently completed her first year in the Master of Divinity program. During the summer of 2013 she is serving her Clinical Pastoral Experience at  Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. A native of Florissant, Missouri, she completed her bachelor’s degree in vocal music, with a minor in German, at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. She was one of 16 ELCA students to receive a Fund for Leaders full-tuition scholarship during the 2012-13 academic year.

Delaney has known since she was a young child that she wanted to serve the church.

When I visited Trinity it was just a really friendly experience and that means a lot to me. I am a social person and I want to make connections with people. That’s kind of how I understand my place in the world, is my place with other people”

Qian “Yoyo” Liu

Qian “Yoyo” Liu is a student in the Master of Arts in Church Music program at Trinity.  Born and raised in the Jilin Province of China, she came to the United States to study piano performance at Capital University. Upon completion of her bachelor’s degree at Capital, she earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Ohio State University. While a student at Capital, she found work playing the piano for a local church. The experience introduced her to hymns and liturgy, and to her own emerging faith. When a friend told her about Trinity’s Master of Arts in Church Music, she set her sights on a new vocation. Once destined for the concert stage, Yoyo now finds fulfillment in the church.

Yoyo is currently in her second year at Trinity, where she strives to learn unfamiliar music in the midst of the academic work.

Trinity is challenging, but it feels like home. The music is new, but I’m confident…The decision to change to church music was very hard; my whole life was going in another direction, but God helped me through that and I am glad I am here now.

Benjamin Sloss

Benjamin J. Sloss is a native of Kokomo, Indiana, and the son of the Rev. Mark and Susan Sloss. He also is a graduate of Capital University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity on May 18, and now awaits a call in the Northwestern Ohio Synod of the ELCA.

This summer Ben will serve as an ambassador for Trinity, visiting Lutheran Outdoor Ministry sites around the country and talking with counselors and other youth leaders about theological education and vocations in ministry. His wife Tracie is a graduate of Indiana University and works in marketing for non-profit agencies. Ben says he always enjoyed the worship experience while a student at Trinity.

There is a level of involvement and intention with this community that I have never seen before.

 500 Years of the Reformation

2017 marks five hundred years since Martin Luther posted the Ninety-five Theses in Wittenberg, Germany. As we await this celebration in the church, we prepare for the milestone that 500 years is. In the coming months, we will feature different resources and publications here. We hope to engage you, in conjunction with Hamma Library, in celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation! For now, these two websites offer additional information about preparing for the anniversary and about the Reformation's history.
