Position Description – TLS Old Testament Search

Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) with strong ecumenical commitments, is pleased to announce a search for a full-time, tenure-eligible position in Old Testament to be filled by July 1, 2015, with teaching responsibilities to begin in the fall of 2015.  
The person chosen for this position will have these qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. or its equivalent in Old Testament
  • Demonstrated excellence as a teacher and leader or evidence of significant promise in these areas
  • Experience in developing and teaching high-quality online courses or evidence of  commitment to develop expertise in this area
  • Experience in congregational ministry
  • Spanish language skills or a commitment to attaining them
  • Experience with international travel, particularly in the Middle East, or a commitment to attain it
  • Evidence of published scholarship
  • A passion for the mission of Trinity Lutheran Seminary
The person chosen for this position will have these responsibilities:
  • Teach 4–5 courses per year (core and elective courses in Old Testament, as well as Hebrew language)
  • Share normal faculty responsibilities for advising students and serving on seminary committees
  • Be an active member of a local congregation and participate in the wider life of the church
  • Strive for continual improvement as a member of the academy through study, research and writing, and diligent attention to pedagogical methods
